Mission for a Cause is a Melbourne-based charity dedicated to providing essential meals and support to homeless individuals every Monday at Queen Victoria Markets. Since 2019, the organisation has delivered over 150,000 meals to people in need.
“Our mission is to ensure no one in Melbourne goes hungry. A nutritious meal is not just food; it brings hope and dignity,” says Leigh Johnson, Founder.
In addition to meals, the charity provides clothing, toiletries, blankets, and other essentials to those facing homelessness.
“We do whatever we can to support those who need it most – whether it's warm food, blankets, or even pet supplies. It’s about helping people feel seen and cared for,” explains Johnson.
Each Monday, they assist up to 600 individuals, offering not just physical nourishment but a sense of community.
Thanks to a SilverChef Community Grant valued at $5,000 AUD, Mission for a Cause was able to purchase a new fridge and upright freezer from SilverChef's Certified Used Equipment range, which allows the organisation to store more food donations and serve more meals.
“This freezer has made a real difference. It’s given us the capacity to safely store more perishable food, meaning we can serve even more people each week,” says Johnson.
The improved storage capacity ensures the charity can continue accepting food donations and providing consistent support to Melbourne’s homeless population. With the support of this grant, Mission for a Cause continues to expand its reach, offering vital services and care to the city’s most vulnerable.
